Ceramics 1
Class of 2026
My experience with Ceramics 1 went better than I could have ever expected, since I hadn’t ever worked with clay before. I adjusted to the new style of art I was creating very quickly. I found that working with clay helped with stressfulness, and gave me a sense of serenity. For my art show collection, I made three bowls all with a cohesive glaze pattern. I worked for weeks on perfecting my bowl making, and trimming. The design on my bowl is splattered paint with two shades of the same color. To me this glaze idea represents uniqueness, and individuality. But, it also represents how everyone is connected. In middle school, I also felt so out of place all the time and I never knew why. It wasn’t something I struggled with, but it gave me so much anxiety. I also cared about what people thought about me. Coming into Trinity, my anxiety definitely decreased and I felt welcomed and I felt like I could be myself and not be worried all the time. I realized how everyone here is unique and different, but are all connected in some way. I based my pieces off this realization by using cohesive patterns and styles but different colors to represent how everyone is different yet has something in common. After this semester in ceramics, I am choosing to go into ceramics 2 and design fundamentals. I am very interested in IB art and hope to pursue it. I have found ceramics so inspiring and I believe it has brought out my creative side.
